The Idol boys "tried" last night.

Lot of average on Idol…The guys did OK last night. Decent performances from all but two. And those two were the good and the ugly. Big Mike tore it up as he belted it out…man, he hit a long note at the end and then turned it into a falsetto. Very cool. He even made Kara cry. I have to say, after last night I’m liking Big Mike more (he hasn’t been my favorite up to this point) The ugly…well, that would be little Aaron. He tried to do Lonestar’s “I’m already there”…and he wasn’t there. You know how Toby Keith likes to sing with a vibrato? Well, Aaron was Mr. Vibrato all song long. Bad, bad, bad.

In my expert opinion Aaron and Tim are going home.

American Idol Episode Recap: The Top 8 Women Perform

Here we are, just a few more performances away from selecting the American Idol's top 12 for Season 9. As the judges noted, the pressure to not tank this week is high. And while there were some memorable performances, for some of the ladies, there was some pretty serious unfortunate tanking going on. So, who let nerves get the best of them? And which singers returned to their former greatness? Let's find out.

Katie Stevens, "Breakaway"

Following the judges' orders to pick both a big song and a young song, Katie tackled Kelly Clarkson, and the results were... not amazing. Her lower register was all over the place, and when she finally got into her big-note safe zone, she seemed to be rushing. (To be fair, the tempo felt a little slow, throughout.) For my money, Katie hasn't lived up to any of her early round performances, which to me suggests the judges' put her through too early, much like Haeley Vaughn, who was a casualty last week.
Judging the Judges: B+ Randy said it paled in comparison to Kelly Clarkson and Kara said Katie hasn't shown herself as an artist. Also, the singing was just plain bad.

Siobhan Magnus, "House of the Rising Sun"

I really dug the a capella opening, and although the big notes were in tune, they felt a little shout-y and brassy, kind of like I was hearing a trombone playing the song instead of someone singing. I do think it was a risky song and that Siobhan will be fine, but I preferred last week's, and even the Chris Isaak tune to this.
Judging the Judges: B- Randy, Kara and Ellen were blown away by the risk, while Simon rightly pointed out that since he was "under-impressed," there was no real reward.

Lacey Brown, "The Story"

I went into the semifinals loving Lacey, but I had forgotten why until tonight. Though I'm unfamiliar with the song (and don't think that will change after the performance), Lacey sang it pretty much perfectly. The song also played to her unique tone without feeling like she was faking it, as it did with "Kiss Me" last week.
Judging the Judges: A Randy and Ellen agreed it was her best showing in weeks. Kara and Simon both thought the song was radio ready and that Lacey was back.

Katelyn Epperly, "I Feel the Earth Move"

Katelyn told the judges she was trying to be less corny than last week. (A performance I thought was excellent, by the way.) If that was indeed her intention, she failed miserably. This was a very middle-of-the-road performance, which, as Kara noted, reeked of Katelyn just trying to play it safe until next week.
Judging the Judges: B Randy said there was no connection, and Kara agreed that Katelyn was going through the motions rather than competing.

Didi Benami, "Rhiannon"

Didi is back! And so is her guitar! Why she failed to play during the last two shows is beyond me, but this stunning performance of the Fleetwood Mac classic was spot-on. It was beautifully sung and in some spots, improved upon the original. (It also helped me forget the terrible version Taylor Swift did with Steve Nicks at the Grammys.) Welcome back, Didi.
Judging the Judges: B Randy stupidly said there wasn't a wow moment, while Kara and Simon agreed that it was one of the best moments of the show so far this season. Ellen applauded Didi for taking last week's (needlessly) brutal criticism and coming back strong.

Paige Miles, "Smile"

Unfortunately for Paige, this rendition of one of the best songs ever caused nothing but frowns in my house. She delivered over half of the song out of tune, and never really found her footing. She seemed to be on the verge of tears throughout, which she later explained was because of Michael Jackson. That's great and all, but maybe next time choose something you can manage to get through during the live show. I predict she just wrote herself out of the finals.
Judging the Judges: A Ellen and Randy agreed it didn't work at all, and Simon is disappointed that Paige has wasted her big-voice potential week after week.

Crystal Bowersox, "Give Me One Reason"

At the risk of sounding like the rest of those who have been praising Crystal endlessly (and, for my money, prematurely), I will say that Crystal impressed me tonight. She made me like a song I grew so tired of during its endless radio play in the '90s. And, it's true that she has her path as an artist already laid out in her mind. I still wish the judges weren't so overtly gaga for her, because at some point, I think that will turn into backlash.
Judging the Judges: B Ellen calls her the best of the night and Kara loved the contemporary take on the song. Simon says the competition is Crystal's to lose.

Lilly Scott, "I Fall to Pieces"

I will never by a Lilly Scott CD, but I have been entertained by her. That sort of ended tonight. I thought she sang the song fine in her own quirky way, but I was bored by it. And I think Simon picked up on it, as he noted that it was a risky song that may not translate with viewers at home.
Judging the Judges: D Ellen and Randy said useless praiseworthy things as usual, and Simon said it didn't have a wow moment. Kara for some reason believed Lilly made Patsy Cline sound relevant. Um, not at all.

Simon says, “You’re an IDIOT!”

That’s right Simon says Idiot not Idol! Last year he and Sting got in a battle over the validity of American Idol. Sting thinks it’s, “televised Karaoke and Preposterous.” Simon thinks otherwise…ya think?! Anyway, after a five month silence Simon just called Sting on the carpet. He says…

“First of all anyone who at the age of 60 calls himself Sting is an idiot! I find those kind of people… who come from quite humble beginnings and they’re (now) living in these stately homes, professing to know everything about everything in the world, and what the contestants may or may not feel… They can say that because they’ve got everything they want in their lives, but what they’re really saying is anybody else who needs a shot shouldn’t be allowed to do it.”

Right on Simon, right on…

Who’s that in Spiderman PJ’s?

Zac Efron could be the next Spiderman. Toby Maguire got tossed by Sony so they could revamp the franchise and Zac is salivating to get the gig. He says, “I’ve been a fan since I was six years old…tearing through the comic books. I would Tear it up” as Spidy. I’d say he has a good shot at becoming the web-slinger.

Dwight Yoakam just stepped in it

Dwight is the latest star to get called on the carpet by the IRS! What’s the deal with Hollywood and the IRS? (I’m blaming this on the Hollywood side of Dwight…because his country side wouldn’t dream of letting this happen) More then likely this is something his accountant screwed up and he had no knowledge but he’s the one that has to come up with the $487,000…or lose his property. IRS just put a lien on his house. Good Luck buddy.

Brad Paisley Rushed to the Hospital

Brad fell at a concert in SC. He was about to wrap up his encore performance when he got tripped up and slammed in to a riser on stage! I mean went head first and it looked bad…even took him a few seconds to get up off the stage. He stumbled around the stage before waving and calling a night. BUT, as soon as he left the stage he was taken to the hospital where he spent the night. End result…lots and lots of bruises.

New host on Dancing with the Stars

Samantha Harris is gone from DWTS…stop your cheering…Len wouldn’t think it was polite. But, that Samantha thing is old news…the big news is who’s taking her place. Nope, it’s not Melissa Rycroft (although I’d love to see her get the gig…I have a little something for her) It’s Brooke Burke! Season 7 winner! She starts March 22 (BTW, do you know how long it took me to find a family friendly photo of Brooke? Yikes, gotta remember to put Google in Safe mode)

Oscar Galore

If you really want to see all the winners..here you go.

American Idol....4 Get the Boot...2 We Agreed With & 2 Were Shockers!

John Park, Jermaine Sellers, Michelle Delamor and Haeley Vaughn were sent home on last night's American Idol. The Top 20 kicked things off by singing "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. Idol alum Danny Gokey dropped by to do his new tune "My Best Days Are Ahead of Me." He told Ryan Seacrest that Randy Travis inspired him to go country. Next week, the girls sing on Tuesday and the guys go on Wednesday

Johnny Depp's Gal Say's Oh No You Don't!!!!

Johnny Depp's girlfriend Vanessa Paradis doesn't want to be another Jennifer Aniston. When Vanessa found out that the father of her two children was supposed to shoot a shoot a steamy sex scene with reputed home wrecker Angelina Jolie, she demanded that Johnny quit the movie, The Tourist. A source tells X-17, "He's currently trying to [get out of the movie], but I don't know if he's succeeded. But he's trying and they're talking about replacing him with [Jolie's partner] Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio." Brad left Jen after co-starring with Angie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Are Tiger & Elin Back Together?

Tiger Woods and his wife Elin are once again living under the same roof, but things are far from lovey-dovey. A source tells People magazine, "The marriage is all smoke and mirrors, but Elin will help Tiger rebuild his image and gain new sponsorships because this is what his life is all about. She is doing this more for the kids and holding the family together than anything else."

AMERICAN IDOL: Top 10 Girls

On last night's American Idol...

Crystal Bowersox opened the night. She made headlines for being hospitalized for an undisclosed illness on Tuesday, but came back strong with the Creedence Clearwater Revival tune "Long As I Can See the Light." Simon Cowell said it was like seeing Kelly Clarkson's star power for the first time. Haeley Vaughn failed to impress with "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. Randy Jackson called it rough. Simon said it was an utter mess. Lacey Brown did Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me." Ellen DeGeneres said it was a good song choice and adorable. Kara DioGuardi said Lacey has got to step it up. Katie Stevens did Corinne Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On." Randy saw some bright moments. Kara didn't like the song choice. Didi Benami did "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers. Ellen praised her voice but not her song choice. Michelle Delamor did Creed's "With Arms Wide Open." Kara said it was her best-ever performance. Simon said she got it 80-percent right. Lilly Scott did "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke. Randy, Ellen and Kara praised the performance. Simon said he wasn't crazy about it. Katelyn Epperly did Coldplay's "The Scientist." Randy liked it. Ellen thought it was too slow. Kara said it was all over the place. Paige Miles did Kelly Clarkson's "Walk Away." Randy liked it. Ellen loved it. Simon said she failed to choose the right song. Siobhan Magnus closed out the night with Aretha Franklin's "Think." Randy said it was fearless. Kara praised the high notes. Simon said parts were terrible.

Burt Reynolds Heart Surgery!

JUPITER, Fla. - Burt Reynolds' manager says the actor has been released from a Florida hospital after a planned quintuple heart bypass operation. Erik Kritzer said in a statement Wednesday that Reynolds had been scheduled for the operation for over a month. Kritzer said Reynolds went into the hospital on Monday and was discharged Tuesday.

A New McDaddy on Grey's Anatomy!

Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane and his wife Rebecca Gayheart welcomed their first child this morning. Rebecca gave birth to a girl at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. No name has been announced for their daughter yet but friends and family say ‘they’re both over the moon about it." Which Guys Impressed The Judges Last Night On AMERICAN IDOL?

On last night's American Idol, Ryan Seacrest told us what most of us already knew, that singer Crystal Bowersox was rushed to the hospital yesterday morning and so the Top 10 guys would go first. The girls sing tonight, with or without Crystal. Big Mike Lynche was first up with a powerful rendition of "It's A Man's, Man's, Man's World" by James Brown. Randy Jackson was on his feet, calling Mike an R-&-B star. Simon Cowell said Mike went "from a pussycat to a lion." John Park did "Gravity" by John Mayer. Simon said it was "a performance we'll forget in 20 minutes." Ellen DeGeneres chimed in that at least she liked his look. Hunky Casey James had his guitar for Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Wanna Be." Kara DioGuardi took a break from her usual flirting with Casey to tell him that this isn't a guitar-playing contest. Alex Lambert did John Legend's "Everybody Knows." Ellen said his banana was ripe this week. Simon said he was a "million percent better." Todrick Hall did Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It?" Randy hated the arrangement. Simon said it was like suffering through something at a theme park. Jermaine Sellers did "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye. Simon said the arrangement sucked. Andrew Garcia left his guitar at home for James Morrison's "You Give Me Something." Ellen said Andrew has yet to match his popular take on Paula Abdul's "Straight Up." Simon said he needed to see something more special. Aaron Kelly did "My Girl" by The Temptations. Ellen said it was forgettable. Simon said it was all over the place. Tim Urban did "Come on Get Higher" by Matt Nathanson. Ellen said Tim should head to Glee. Simon said he showed improvement. Lee Dewyze did Hinder's "Lips of An Angel." Kara said he's got a great voice for radio. Simon said Lee's the one to beat. Head to TV Drops for audio from the show.

Smithsonian To O.J. - Thanks But No Thanks!

It was generous of noted killer OJ Simpson to donate his "acquittal suit" to the Smithsonian Institution, but an official there told TMZ, "It is highly unlikely we will accept it." A judge yesterday green lit the move to donate the suit Simpson was wearing when the misguided jury found him not guilty of murdering Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson. An official from the Smithsonian ... who did not want to be ID'd ... told TMZ this AM before accepting anything the item would go to museum curators for review. The curator then sends the item to one of the various museums -- e.g., the National Museum of American History. A review is then conducted. The official said no one has offered the suit to the Institution yet, but the official does not believe OJ Simpson's acquittal suit will pass muster. tmz.com

EBERT DEBUTS NEW VOICE ON OPRAH !

Film critic Roger Ebert -- who lost his voice and much of his jaw in his battle with thyroid cancer -- showed off his new computerized voice on yesterday's Oprah Winfrey Show. Frustrated with computer-generated voices that didn't sound like his own, Ebert has been working with a company that is taking clips from his old TV appearances to create a new computer-generated voice based on his old speaking voice. Ebert's wife, Chaz, was so impressed with the new voice that she was moved to tears, saying, "I think it sounds incredible." Audio: Roger Ebert demonstrates his new computerized voice on Oprah. OC:...still can. :21 [courtesy of The Oprah Winfrey Show "This is the first version of my computer voice. It's what they call a beta. It still needs improvement but at least it sounds like me. When I type anything, this voice this voice will speak whatever I type when I read something. It will read it in my voice. But I have got to say, in first grade they said I talked too much and now I still can."

Our hunky pilot Jake proposed to Vienna on last night's season finale of The Bachelor...

Jake's family joined the lovebirds on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. His parents met with the two remaining bachelorettes and agreed that Tenley was the right girl for their boy. For their final date, Jake took Vienna to a sulfur spring for some mud wrestling and face-sucking. He took Tenley snorkeling and told her that their physical chemistry was lacking. At the final rose ceremony, Tenley arrived via helicopter to hear Jake tearfully tell her to hit the road. Jake then dropped to one knee and proposed to Vienna. She said yes.

They also announced the next Bachelorette! It's Allie!

Topless Photos From American Idol?

Unlike season two's Frenchie Davis or season six's Antonella Barba, no one seems to be complaining about current contestant Tim Urban's recently revealed topless shots. In fact, I think everyone is saying, "Thank you, Internet!" The singer (and I use that term veeeeeery loosely) miraculously skated through to the Top 20 last week based solely on his good looks -- something these pictures (via ONTD) prove he's got in spades. But the big question is, how long will Tim's all-American good looks keep him in the competition? Well, if he keeps wearing heavy jackets like he did last week, the kid won't be sticking around very long. But, if Tim takes a tip from Kris Allen and opts for short sleeves, low v-necks and tight fitted tee's, he just might become this season's Sanjaya. You know, but one you want to sleep with.

Sad News For The Osmonds.

Marie Osmond's 18-year-old adopted son Michael Blosil killed himself Friday by jumping from his apartment in L-A. Marie released a statement, saying, "My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time." A few minutes before leaping to his death, Michael had sent a text message to a female friend alerting her to a suicide note he had left in his apartment. In the note, Michael had reportedly written about being extremely unhappy and called the woman "his only good friend in L-A" In 2007, Michael entered a rehab facility. American Idol: The 1st 4 Are Sent Packing!

"Idol" contestants Janell Wheeler, Ashley Rodriguez, Joe Munoz and Tyler Grady were revealed Thursday to be the two female and male semifinalists with the fewest viewer votes, leaving 20 singers to compete in the popular Fox singing competition's ninth season. Grady, the 20-year-old throwback singer from Nazareth, Pa., didn't go without a fight. "I really like all the judges," said Grady, who was jeered after his performance of The Guess Who's "American Woman" on Wednesday's performance episode. "I've really had a great time with them, but I feel like I didn't really get much constructive criticism during 'Hollywood Week,' and I feel like what they told me was a little bit too late." Wheeler, a 24-year-old wine sales representative from Tampa, Fla., and Rodriguez, a 22-year-old college student from Chelsea, Mass., were the first semifinalists dismissed. Viewers must have agreed with judge Simon Cowell that Wheeler did not give it "100 percent" on Heart's "What About Love" and that Rodriguez's rendition of Leona Lewis' "Happy" was "clumsy." "I am going to sing a song!" Rodriguez declared to host Ryan Seacrest after her ouster. The eliminations of male semifinalists Grady and Munoz, the 20-year-old crooner of Huntington Park, Calif., who sang Jason Mraz's "You and I Both" to mixed reviews from the panel, shocked the fellow singers standing by their sides. The eyes of Tim Urban, a 20-year-old college student from Duncanville, Texas, widened when he heard it was Munoz instead of him. Alex Lambert, a 19-year-old high school student from North Richland Hills, Texas, who had what Cowell deemed "the most uncomfortable performance of the night," was censored for whatever he said after Grady was eliminated. Fox spokeswoman Jill Hudson said the audio was dropped because the language did not meet broadcast standards. Before the final elimination, eighth season winner Kris Allen returned to "Idol" to talk about his recent trip to earthquake-ravaged Haiti and perform The Beatles' "Let It Be." Viewers were asked to make donations online or by text-messaging, with the money going to the Idol Gives Back Foundation to support the United Nations Foundation's work in Haiti.

CNN falls for 140-year-old hot dog hoax

CNN falls for 140-year-old hot dog hoax. Thursday morning, CNN reported a story from a New York news station affiliate about a 140-year-old hot dog that was found yesterday on Coney Island under Feltman’s restaurant which is in the process of being torn down. The hot dog was encased in ice and had been found by an archaeologist. The video of the story from the local TV news station showed an original receipt from Feltman’s that was encased in the ice as well. The reporter went on to say that the hot dog was being put on exhibit and they were touting it as the first hot dog in existence. The exhibit was scheduled to open on Coney Island on Palm Sunday. The news story even went so far as to ask people if they would go out to Coney Island to see the hot dog exhibit and many people said they would. As it turns out the whole story was a publicity hoax to get people to go out to Coney Island. CNN has removed the story and video from their website without explanation. The most recent well known hoax played in Utah was when the owner of the Utah Flash hired a Michael Jordan look-a-like to appear at the opening game, and told the crowd it was Jordan. The hoax went terribly wrong when the crowd realized the man was a fake, got angry and about half of the people left the Utah arena. For more on that story, click here. Examiner

American Idol Top 12 Recap: Guys, Guys, Guys!

Season 9 of American Idol got started in earnest last night with the Top 12 Girls taking the stage, but instead of blowing us out of the water, I was left treading water -- and waiting for a wow performance. While the girls twinkled, they didn't blind me with their brilliance. Hopefully, that all changes tonight with a super (nova) performance from the Top 12 guys. Just like the girls, they'll be singing Hot Billboard singles and just like the ladies, we've warned them what they should and should not be singing. Hopefully the guys take direction better than Katie Stevens.

Despite all the pre-season hyping of the girls, we're counting on the guys to save week one and bring something unique to the table. And, we're hoping that Andrew Garcia isn't the only one who does so. Is that too much to ask? We'll find out live tonight as the guys take the stage. Follow along with me here for my live thoughts and chat along with me in the comments. After the night is over, don't forget to make your American Idol Fantasy TV picks for who'll be the first guys and gals eliminated from season 9. This season, there are extra perks for playing: you'll be competing against genuine American Idol expert Anoop Desai and you'll be competing for some fabulous prizes. But enough about tomorrow's inevitable eliminations, tonight it's all about the guys and it's all about the songs. Who do you think will shine tonight? And who do you think will be given the all important pimp spot? Cheer-O-Meter:

So, who did the audience cheer for the loudest? Surprising no one, Andrew Garcia. Todrick Hall also got a big round of applause. Surprisingly quite cheers? Aaron Kelly. Also if that intro order is performance order as it was last night, pimp spot does go to Andrew Garcia. I thought that was way too obvious, but then again, so was Katie Stevens. Thing is, I almost understand the placement tonight, Andrew Garcia and what he'll do is what's going to keep people on the channel if the guys stink up the stage the same way some of the ladies did.

Todrick Hall

"Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson Oh no you diiin't Todrick. Todrick is attempting a spoken word, with hundreds of unecessary vocal run version of Kelly Clarkson's classic "Since U Been Gone," my favorite Idol song ever. Just the thought of messing with it verges on sacrilege. What Todrick does with it does more than verge. Let's just say, it's about as successful as Haeley's rewrite of the Beatles last night, in as much as it's totally unrecognizable. Todrick hits most of his notes when he's singing, but he's sing-talking most of it. All in all Todrick delivered it with confidence and made it all about him, and definitely performed. However, he should watch for torch carrying Kelly fans. Fans like me. Simons Says (Most Notable Judges Comment): "I thought it was a crazy arrangement of the song. What you did was completely murder the original song. You can boo all you want, but nobody would buy it. I think what you did was verging on stupid." Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Shaky (He'll be remembered, but for what reason?)

Aaron Kelly "Here Comes Goodbye" by Rascal Flats Will Aaron Kelly remember the words or not? That's the question on everyone's mind. He does, indeed! Also, I'd like to note I said the best possible choice for Aaron to sing tonight would be a Rascal Flats song. I'll talk that as a half point. Here was my logic: if Aaron's going to win Idol it'll be thanks to the 10-Gallon Hat, Country FM loving voters. That and the teen girl vote, because even I want to pinch this kids cheeks. Tonight, I think he pleases all his possible fans. He has a big voice, even if he doesn't hit all the notes, and he serves up the tune with just the right nasal twang that country thrives on and teen girls identify with. Simon Says: "You're a good singer. Very likable. Very cute, but you have to take control of the song. I think absolutely 100% you'll be here this week." Kara also said Aaaron is her favorite kind of contestant. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Safe

Jermaine Sellers "Get Here" by Oleta Adams In his pre-roll, Jermaine apologizes for being a jackass to the band during Hollywood Week, which made me hate him. So tonight, in the hopes of experiencing him on a clean slate and with open ears, I will forgive him. Man, the open ears promise may have been a mistake. Jermaine is definitely a church singer, though in his lower notes there is some pleasing roughness. When he goes super high, which he seems addicted to doing, he's a sharp and off. I prefer he stay in mid-range and lower ranges where his voice is rich full and raspy. In those areas, the performance showed a lot of vocal promise, if he was could get over the bad vocal habits of being a church singer. (There's a reason Melisma Abuser Anonymous Meetings are held in churches.) Simon Says: "And then in the middle when you were trying to over sing it, it actually sounded like you were screaming. I think you totally blew your opportunity with that." The rest of the judges vehemently degree with Simon on the blowing the opportunity, but they agree on the over-singing. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Shaky (and the half apology at the end about being a diva that then kind of turned into him being a diva, didn't do him any favors.)

Tim Urban "Apologize" by One Republic This is our first solid look at Tim Urban, so they give us a longer introduction about his Idol journey and his last minute acceptance to the show. Also Tim has the bangs of a superstar, seriously: Superstar bangs right? But the vocals of a superstar? Not so much. Tim is adorable, but it's bad opening band material at best. His high notes, of which he's added many extra, are affected and painfully helium. He struggles with his phrasing, even though it's basically a straight up cover. It was karaoke at best, embarrassingly so. Like I feel bad for him, because of the perfect bangs and dimples and nice guy vibe. Simon Says: "We absolutely made the right decision the first time around based on that performance. You may make it through because people feel sorry for you and you're good looking." The rest of the judges are almost equally cruel and I am amazed that Tim doesn't burst into tears on stage. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Should be packing (sorry Tim, you're adorable, but I'm not sure anyone is THAT adorable considering the vocal.)

Joe Munoz "You and I Both" by Jason Mraz I may be in the minority, but I think they should ban Jason Mraz songs from American Idol. They're new songs, that feel so old when sung American Idol style. That being said, Joe sings it rather unremarkably, but way better than Tim Urban. In contrast to what we just heard, plus the destruction of a Kelly Clarkson classic, Joe delivers the strongest performance of the night. Once he gets going with a smile on his face and he lights up, it's even enjoyable. Considering what we've already heard, I expect him to be safe tonight, but not necessarily for very long. Simon Says: Kara says, "Tonight in terms of the singing, I think you were the best. You were the most consistent in there." Simon says he "kind of agrees," before decimating Joe -- you might succeed tonight but you'll be a failure in the real world. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Safe

Tyler Grady "American Woman" by The Guess Who I so called this for Tyler, but not the style, which starts out slow, bluesy and sultry. I'm glad he didn't go for the straight up instant rocking with it and eased in a bit to his '70s sex panther shtick. It's not an extraordinary vocal and it's occasionally a bit screamy and sharp, but I'm interested in him as performer. I'm not bored stiff like the rest of the guys, Tyler has swagger, strut and fun. It may be style over substance, but it still feels like a dose of something good considering some of the snooze fest we've seen tonight. Simon Says: "Plus side, people are going to remember that performance. Pretend-to-be-a-rockstar school. We know what your style gimmick is, but you have to change it a little bit." As predicted, all the judges critique Tyler's '70s shtick, begging him to do more than pose. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Safe (call me crazy, but I think his likability and alternative retro vibe will get him through week one.) We're half way through the night, who do you like the most? Who do you think is in trouble?
Lee Dewyze "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol Lee's my dark horse for the boys, so I hope he does well. I would never, ever have chosen this song for him, but Lee seems a fan of contemporary soft rock tunes despite the retro rasp to his voice. He's the first guy to bring out the acoustic guitar out tonight, which as noted, is added points. He makes a very memorable song his own, in a way I really like. It makes you focus on the lyrics to the tune, turns it acoustic, but doesn't make it unrecognizable. Lee's voice has character and style, as well as power and is the least cookie-cutter we've heard all night. Thus, I liked it, quite a bit. Simon Says: "I thought this was the best performance, by far. Totally. This guy is a naturally good singer. I fought for you to be there and I still will." Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Safe (with Simon's help and his natural charm)

John Park "God Bless The Child" John says getting hit on be Shania Twain is one the highlights of his night and that he'd propose to Shania tomorrow. And he promises he's not joking, I hope he is. Another Idol spoiler that was wrong, but this is basically the same as "At Last," it's a standard spiritual. I think it's a bad choice for John, yes he has the right deep soulful tone to do the song justice, but he doesn't. The song is not particularly memorable and it gets off to a super slow start, before going into vocal run after vocal run after vocal run. Also and most disturbing to me, when John sings, he's virtually impossible to understand. I need to be able to make out the lyrics to feel a song and I felt nothing. Simon Says: "You have got to have an incredible voice to take on that song, and you haven't. It came over as very flat and zero emotion." The rest of the judges agree with Simon and berate John for his poor song choice, just like me. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Shaky (but will be saved by his pre-season Shania interaction)
Big Mike Lynche "This Love" by Maroon 5 Mike does a disco-acoustic rendition of "This Love" by Maroon 5. Big Mike seems to be a guy who's record collection is chalk-full of John Mayer, Jason Mraz and other blue-eyed soul acts. His voice is a little sharp and flat for me, but I love that he brought out the acoustic guitar for the performance, even if it mainly seemed to be a prop. Best of all Big Mike really performed for the audience, interacting with them and trying to entertain. It's not the greatest vocals, but he's gregarious, likable and not going anywhere. Simon Says: "You were like the support act before the main act. I've heard performances like that 10 or 20,000 times." The rest of the judges basically say your personality is so great, it doesn't matter how good or bad your voice is. Also, everyone else sucked and were boring, so you were a breath of fresh air. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Safe
Alex Lambert "Wonderful World" by James Morrison Say this mantra with me: "Abbey will not type Adam Lambert. Abbey will not type Adam Lambert." I need all the help I can get with this task. Tim Urban may have superstar bangs, but he does not have a BANG MULLET: We haven't heard much of Alex before tonight, but when he is singing with confidence (which is almost never) he has an interesting, warm and rich tone. Unfortunately he and Tim Urban don't just look extra alike, the both have painfully off vocals. Alex appears to be forgetting the words or just so nervous that he can't control his voice at all. Or maybe he's singing the song off a teleprompter? It's embarrassing and awkward and you feel awful for him. His voice is interesting but the performance was terrible. Simon Says: "I don't know who was more happy for that to end, you or me. That was the most uncomfortable performance of the night. You have a good voice, a naturally good voice, but if you can't get your nerves together, this isn't going to work." Ellen compares him to an unripe banana and she means it as a compliment. Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Should be packing (he has a great tone, but everyone will remember the awkward trainwreck-ishness of that.)
Casey James "Heaven" by Bryan Adams A fit of laughter and clowning around from the judges' table almost trips up Casey, he almost starts cracking up and has a huge smile on his face. Thank goodness it didn't trip him up though completely, because Casey is the real deal. He may be handsome as hell, but that should not take away at all from how good his voice is. Casey sounds like he's country radio ready, with a slight rasp and a warm tone. He kills the song, making it a bit of a slow country crooner. I think it was my favorite interpretation of the night, maybe my favorite vocals too. Simon Says: Ellen says, "It was hard for me to hear, because I could feel Kara undressing you with your eyes. You're going to get votes like crazy, so it doesn't matter." Kara saves herself, "you are eye-candy, but you're ear candy as well." Safe, Shaky, or Should Be Packing: Safe (much to Kara's husband's chagrin)
Andrew Garcia "Sugar We're Going Down" by Fallout Boy Andrew was still better than almost everyone who went tonight, but for me this was his most unmemorable performance so far. His voice is still pleasing and interesting, his acoustic arrangement is still unique, he is still likable, but it was an incredible let down. And I'm not just sure it's because of the high expectations, it was just a bit off tempo and off tone all night. Bring back "Straight Up" quirkiness Andrew. Pretty please. Simon Says: "I was looking forward to you all night, but I was disappointed. It was too serious and too indulgent. Unfortunately it was a bit forgettable. I'm really really disappointed about that, you've got to do better." The rest of the judges agree with me: Bring. Back. "Straight Up."

Simon said she was "verging on terrible." Lacey Brown did Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide." Randy said the song choice was terrible. Simon said it was depressing, indulgent and boring. Kara added that she hopes America gives her another shot.

Didi Benami did Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am." Simon said it was indulgent and dreary. Ellen found it too low-key for a first impression.
Siobhan Magnus took on the Chris Isaak song "Wicked Game." Kara and Simon liked it. Randy advised her to reach for bigger things. Ellen loved it.
Crystal Bowersox did the Alanis Morissette chick-anthem "Hand in My Pocket." Randy called it original and honest. Simon said it was good, "but there are thousands doing this outside subway stations."
Katie Stevens closed out the night with Michael Buble's "Feeling Good." Ellen said it was conservative for a 17-year-old. Simon said it "started to become annoying."

As a result, production on the show "will be temporarily suspended," according to a statement from C-B-S and the show's producer, Warner Brothers Television. T-M-Z says Charlie isn't at the same facility as wife Brooke Mueller and that he's expected to check out in two weeks.

Is Simmon Cowell Getting Hitched?

Mamma Cowell Weighs In On Simon's Lady!! Has Simon Cowell's snarky little heart finally been softened by his new lady love?? According to his 84 year old mother, Julie, the answer is YES. She recently talked about how the grinch of American Idol's heart grew three sizes the day he met Mezhgan Hussainy: "I knew it was serious when Simon said he had something important to tell me. He has always insisted, 'I'm fine as I am, mother. I'm not going to get committed to a marriage and I certainly don't want children.' I used to reply, 'You don't know, you've never had them.' Mezhgan is absolutely lovely. She's very pretty with a gorgeous figure, too. I've met her before, of course, at Simon's shows, but only recently did I spend time with her as Simon's new girlfriend." He even took the two main broads in his life to the musical Jersey Boys for some bonding time!! "We sat at a discreet corner table and Simon held hands with her most of the evening. I couldn't believe it when I saw him. He looks exceptionally happy and there is such a glow about him. I thought, my goodness me, he's had to reach 50 to reach this stage. I think turning 50 has made him reassess his life." Aww! Mom sounds so proud!! Simon must really be serious about this lady friend!! We bet if they aren't engaged, they will be soon!! perezhilton

Rep Says Simon Cowell Is Happy – But Not Engaged Simon Cowell's rep, Max Clifford, tells PEOPLE he cannot confirm reports that the American Idol judge is engaged to makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy. But don't be surprised if Cowell pops the question before too long. "I see it being repeated everywhere," Clifford says. "But when I asked him last Wednesday, when he and Mezhgan were about to fly back to L.A., I said, 'Are you engaged?' His answer was, 'Max, I'm not engaged.' That was last Wednesday." Clifford adds that he spoke to Cowell's mother over the weekend, and she also denied that Simon was engaged. But Clifford, who is getting married himself in a few weeks, says he wouldn't be surprised if Cowell followed him down the aisle sooner rather than later. "I said to him, 'So, there's going to be two weddings this year?' " Clifford says. "Normally he would say, 'Don't be so ridiculous' or 'In your wildest dreams.' But he said, 'Who knows?' " Whatever their official status, Clifford says that Cowell, 50, and Hussainy, 36, make a great couple. "They have known each other for years," he says. "They've actually been going out together for the last year. She knows him, she's been around him. So, she knows the person he is, and he knows the person she is. That's why it works so well." He adds: "They are very suited. She is someone who is independent and says what she thinks and feels, and he likes that. He's probably the happiest I have ever known him in the nine years I've been working with him." people.com

Tonight On The Bachelor...The Girls Will Tell All!

If you still have questions about what happened with The Bachelor's Rozlyn and a member of the production team, you'll soon find out. That's the word from host Chris Harrison, who promises Monday's women-tell-all episode will include more of the ousted competitor's "antics" and "desperate attempts to get 15 more minutes of fame." Harrison says the episode will also explore what might have been with Jake Pavelka and the departed Ali, adding, "feelings are still there." TVGuide.com: Will we learn more about Ali's choice to leave Jake for her job?

Chris Harrison: I know there's been a lot of questions about why she didn't get the time off, because she knew she was going on the show, but she'll explain all that in great detail. It was really just an unfortunate misunderstanding and mistake that led to her having to leave, and so it was really sad that it happened, and it didn't even need to happen.

TVGuide.com: What about her and Jake's interaction?

Harrison: The first thing he says is, "I can't believe you left, I fully expected you to just show up in St. Lucia." What was funny is when I talked to [Ali] privately, she said, "I expected him to just fly to San Francisco and get me." I think they both were expecting the same thing. It's just one of those really unfortunate instances, but the feelings are still there.

The Bachelor: Where Are They Now?

TVGuide.com: Will Rozlyn tell her side of the story?

Harrison: Rozlyn is back in full force as only Rozlyn can be. I got some heat and so did the show for being vague and so I went into the show [and] told everyone we're going to get the truth out. You will hear from the women explosive new details that you have never heard before, because none of them have ever spoken about it until now. There will be 100 percent no question in anyone's mind, other than Rozlyn's, of course. She's the only one confused about it in that relationship. The funny part, not even the guy involved in the relationship is confused. And when I tell you explosive new details, I mean details. Nothing vague about any of this. Time, place, everything — you will hear it all.

Chris Harrison on Bachelor scandal: Rozlyn "started this firestorm" TVGuide.com: So after the special airs, there will be no doubt about what happened? Harrison: It's not a he-said, she-said thing — everybody knows what happened. It only behooves her to continue this and she's the only one still talking about this. We are so done with her and her antics and her desperate attempts to get 15 more minutes of fame and that's what this is about and we don't care.

TVGuide.com: Anything you can tell us about the finale?

Harrison: Jake said himself he's extremely happy, he loves his decision, he likes where he is, and people may not love it, but he's very happy. The entire time he's been going through this, he's never really tried to suck up to the public or done what he thinks everyone will be happy with. I like the fact that he's gone against the grain the entire time. Being the bachelor or bachelorette is really a lonely job. You're surrounded by people all the time, but it is a very isolating, lonely thing to go through. These people get butchered; personally attacked. I tell all of them, all you owe is to yourself to be honest, make your choice and go live your life.

Wanna Buy Taylor Swift's Guitar?

The Auction will raise money for Country Music Hall of Fame. During her performance at the All For The Hall concert last October, Taylor Swift announced that the guitar she played during the show would be auctioned off to raise money for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The Taylor model 655ce twelve string guitar is autographed by Taylor, with the singer's signature number "13" affixed to the body of the guitar. The auction will begin February 13, and run through February 26. To place a bid for the guitar, visit countrymusichalloffame.org and click on “Auction.”

  • A New Man On Grey's Anantomy!

Do you see the family resemblance? I do. And so apparently does Grey’s Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes. I know this because… Sources confirm to me exclusively that Rhimes just hired the guy on the left (Jake McLaughlin, of Starz’ Crash) to play the younger brother of the guy on the right (that would be Justin Chambers’ Alex Karev). Alex’s estranged bro, Aaron, checks into Seattle Grace as a patient in this season’s 19th episode. And as I pointed out in this week’s Ask Ausiello, the family reunion is rather momentous: This will mark the first time viewers will be meeting a member of Alex’s troubled clan. What took so long? You’ll find out when the episode airs in April.
